About proofreading, copy-editing & copywriting
Have you ever been working on a piece of writing and thought ‘I could really use some help here…’?
It’s a completely reasonable response. Great writing is produced in stages, from first thoughts to final proofread, from fact-checking to formatting. And it might not be the best use of your time and resources to carry out all these stages yourself.
This is where I come in!
While the vision for your written resources comes from you, I am well equipped to help you take that vision forward.
I’ve edited and created copy in a range of roles across sectors for over two decades and I’ve been a full-time freelance specialist since 2008.
I trained with the Publishing Training Centre, the industry’s recognised training provider, and I’ve completed the Society for Editors and Proofreaders’ mentoring programme.
In recent years I’ve accessed additional training in fiction editing, blogging and creation of content for social media, and I’ve extended the services I offer selected clients to include social media management, fundraising and research.
I’ve also been developing my own creative writing, and attending writers’ development programmes, for more than twenty years.
This broad experience means I can work well with people of varied backgrounds and outlooks. It enables me to provide you with a tailored balance of communication, creativity and efficiency, so that your written resources always emerge in the best possible shape.
What difference will you see?
For a few concrete examples of how professional proofreading and copy-editing can transform your written resources, see this list compiled by the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.

Social responsibility matters, and I keep my working practices as ethical as I can.
- My business account is with the Co-operative Bank, which abides by a customer-driven ethical policy.
- I work from a home office, and I travel to external appointments by public transport.
- I minimise waste and energy use in my working practices (for example, I work paperlessly wherever possible, and any paper I do use is made from post-consumer recycled waste).
- I’m particularly keen to work with ethical initiatives, including new and innovative ones, and I take a flexible, cost-effective approach that lends itself well to that. I also know that communication for social change requires versatility, which is one of the reasons I take every chance to extend the services I offer.
I’m always open to new ways to make a positive rather than a negative contribution to our shared world while I’m earning my living, so get in touch if you have any suggestions!
